European BJJ Championship 2017 – Competition Results for Stealth BJJ

The IBJJF European Championships took place last week in Lisbon. It was mentioned in our previous post that Stealth BJJ had a team of guys going out there. It was great to see how everyone represented Stealth BJJ excellently and some of them were able to bring home a medal.

Chloe Duffy Stealth BJJ’s second female representative at the European Championships, did really well in her first IBJJF Competition. Competing at white belt she managed to convincingly win two of her matches. Unfortunately she lost her quarter finals match to the category winner, just missing out on a medal. It was a big division and in most other smaller competitions winning two matches would have easily meant a medal.

Peter Wilson unfortunately lost his first round match against a tough french opponent. With his opponent getting an early lead, Peter was unable to pull back the points.
Richard Thompson excellently won his first match but unfortunately lost his second, narrowly missing out on a medal.

Roberto Mura was able to bring home a silver, with a strong points win in the first round and an unfortunate loss in the second. Roberto like everyone put in a lot of work and it is great to see one of the older Masters competitors achieving on a world class stage.
Emil Malczewski won bronze, with some really exciting matches along the way. It was however brilliant to see him play a flying triangle into an armbar finish, to win one of them.

Finally Stealth BJJ now has a new European Champion in it’s ranks Wing Chau Cheung. He had a few tricky opponents, but was able to gain four wins to earn a well deserved gold.
The IBJJF European Championships is an amazing stage to compete on. All the matches were streamed around the world. There are always lots of internationally famous competitors attending. The level of ability at every belt rises year on year. With this whirlwind around them it was great to see the team go out and perform in such a high pressure environment. That was an achievement in itself.
