BJJ athletes heading to the worlds

Best of luck to the six Stealth BJJ athletes who will be competing this weekend at the IBJJF World Masters in Las Vegas. Bolton’s Alan and Chau are both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belts, who have had great success this year in BJJ competitions around the northwest and nationally. Over 10 years ago, their coach Steve Campbell took bronze in the same category and competition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. However, this time we are going for golds!

Lots of hard work and extra training has gone into preparing Stealth BJJ’s largest group of students to take part in the World Masters. An extra comp class was introduced by brown belt British BJJ open weight champion, Jake Corrigan. This helped focus the team and their training for the championships in Vegas.

The World Master’s Championships is a great competition as it is solely for athletes over the age of 29/30. The competition is still divided into weight and belt categories and the standard is still ridiculously high as you would expect from any world championships. Many ex-adult world champions will be competiting this weekend in not just the over 30 category, but also the over 40’s and 50’s.

Our Stealth athletes aren’t full time competitors though! Roberto is a lecturer at Manchester University, Jason a head teacher in Oldham and Chau works as a software tester in Failsworth. This hasn’t stopped them training hard for the competition though, eating healthily, keeping their weight down and of course getting plenty of mat time training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
